Red Cross Enables students in Dedaye prepared for any future disasters

School Children of Dedaye participating in earthquake simulation

For the purpose of letting school children prepared and reduce any upcoming disasters, the Myanmar Red Cross Society conducted a SBDRR (School-based Disaster Risk Reduction) Training in Dedaye from the 10th to the 12th of July, 2010. A total of 44 students from No. (1) Basic Education High School were trained on disaster risk reduction.

The training was conducted by 5 ToTs who had attended training at MRCS Headquarters and facilitated by Red Cross volunteers. This School based Disaster Risk Reduction Training is the first of its kind ever given in Dedaye Township and the objectives of the trainings are (a) to know the conditions that may turn out to be disasters, (b) to be able to respond when disaster breaks out, (c) to improve the capacity of managing the disaster, and (d) to be able to share knowledge gained from the training between students.

Topics like “Natural disasters that breaks out in Myanmar”, “Climate change and basic warnings”, “Indentifying hazards in school” and “Choosing the safe site” were taught to the students who eagerly participated in the training.
