  • School-based Disaster Risk Reduction
    Introduced by Red Cross in Delta

An introductory meeting for School-based Disaster Risk Reduction Trainings was held in bogale on 29 July and was attended by Township Peace and Development Committee members, Township Red Cross Committee members, representatives from humanitarian agencies, teachers, delegates from IFRC, and Red Cross volunteers.

Township Peace and Development Committee acting chairman U Myo Nyunt gave opening speech at the meeting. IFRC field delegate Mr. Hamid Gour also gave opening remark on the occasion.

2nd –In-Command of Bogale Red Cross brigade U Thet Naing gave explanatory account on School-based DRR plans, training plans, and MRCS's recovery efforts in 14 townships including Bogale.

'Previously DRR activities were implemented with a community-based approach. Now we begin to introduce schools and school children with DRR concepts. Those knoledge will spread among community through students. The information they obtained at school will be shared with their friends, parents, siblings and relatives,' explained U Thet Naing.

School-based Disaster Risk Reduction trainings will be held at ten townships in Yagon and Bago Divisions during the month of July 2010.

A prepatory course for those trainings was counducted at MRCS head quarters and was attendedy by assistant township education officers, teachers and 2nd –in-commands from township Red Cross branches.
