Myanmar Red Cross Society Carrying out Recovery Programs,June 2009

Shelter
Myanmar Red Cross Society is supporting 8000 households from eleven townships (Pyapon, Bogale, Mawlamyaingyun, Labutta, Pathein, Kunchangone, Kawhmu, Twantay, Dedaye, Kyaiklatt, Maubin)with shelter assistance to rebuild or repair their houses.
Each beneficiary will be supplied with material worth 350000 Ks and cash-grant of 50000 Ks for small materials and labor costs.
Beneficiaries have to make a shopping list of material worth 350000 Ks. Those lists will be combined. Myanmar Red Cross Society and Village Tract Recovery Committee will cooperate to purchase required material by tender. Construction material will be given to beneficiary according to the shopping list.
The shopping lists are being compiled at the affected townships. It is aimed that the process will be commenced before 1st of July in all village tracts, and construction will be finished by end of August.
Beneficiary will receive latrine pans and pipes.
In September/October, there will be a project evaluation and possibly a second round for an additional 7500 beneficiaries.

Tarpaulin Distribution
Myanmar Red Cross Society is distributing tarpaulins 20000 tarpaulins to 12500 beneficiaries in five cyclone affected townships (Pyapon, Bogale, Mawlamyaingyun, Labutta, Pathein) before rainy season.
Those who didn't receive anything yet will get two tarpaulins and those who received tarpaulins in the previous year will get one tarpaulins to replace the damaged ones.
There will be a small review of the use of the tarpaulins in July.

Seeds and Fertilizers
Myanmar Red Cross Society is giving out assistance to farmers. Four Thousands farmers from six townships (Kunchangone, Kawhmu, Twantay, Dedaye, Kyaiklatt, Maubin) who owns less than five acres of farmland will be given assistance.
Each farmer will receive three types of fertilizers:50kg of Urea, 25kg of TSP and 12.5kg of MSP, and cash-grant of 50000 Ks for seeds, small equipment and labor costs.
Seeds and fertilizers distribution will be carried out from 10th to 20th of June.
There will be a small review of the use of the Seeds and fertilizers in July.

Cash for Work Program
Myanmar Red Cross Society carried out Cash for Work Program (Phase 1) in the eleven affected townships (Kunchangone, Kawhmu, Twantay, Dedaye, Kyaiklatt, Maubin, Pyapon, Bogale, Mawlamyaingyun, Labutta, Pathein) since November 2008. Cash for Work Program (Phase 2) was also commenced in January 2009. Both phases were completed in May 2009. Cash for Work Programs (Phase 1 and Phase 2) carried out (85) projects and helped 6644 beneficiaries (4448 males and 2196 females) get daily wages. The total amount of wages given to those beneficiaries is 239,242,000 Ks.
Cash for Work Projects include repairs and construction of village roads, jetties, bridges, river embankment and other community infrastructures. Transport, agriculture, health and education sectors of affected population were much improved because of Cash for Work Projects.
Myanmar Red Cross Society is also making plans to implement new Cash for Work Projects from October 2009 to March 2010.
