
Malaria ranks as one of the priority diseases in Myanmar. Identifies as the major health concern by nine(9) MRCS Branches, the Health Division provides technical support in collaboration with the MRCS Development and Coordination Unit to build the capacity skills of the nine local branches and address this major public health issue with in their community. The malaria prevention activities build upon supportive actions completed by MRCS Health Division in Magway Division, Bago(West) Division, Eastern Shan State, Northern Shan State, Chin State, Mon State, Kayin State and Mandalay Division. All activities are completed in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program.
Components and Activities
General Objective
To reduce malaria morbidity and mortality among vulnerable populations in endemic areas.
Specific Objective
- To improve the attitude and behavior concerning Malaria by adoption of preventiative measures with 100% utilization Long Lasting Impregnated Treated Nets (LLITNs) in targeted households.
- To increase the Myanmar Red Cross identity within communities, by strengthening the capacity of RCVs in managing community-based malaria prevention activities.
Activities:
- Community health education related to prevention of Malaria
- Small group discussion on Malaria
- CBFA multiplier training and Red Cross dissemination
- Procurement and provision of LLITNs
- Provision of imnpregnation materials for existing nets, organizing impregnation stations (gloves, tablet, masks, buckets)
- IEC development, printing and distribution
- Supportive small First Aid materials
- Peer education activities amongst targeted population groups
