
Health Division implemented Outreach Programme on HIV/AIDS Prevention for Highway Bus/Truck drivers and their assistant, aimed to reduce vulnerability and prevent HIV amongst at risk population groups in Myanmar. This project collaborate with National AIDS Program and MRCS launched in 2002 and since covered 22 bus and truck terminals in Mandalay Division, Shan (North) State and Sagine Divison
Components and Activities
General Objective:
MRCS contributes to reduce HIV vulnerability and its impact upon the Myanmar community
Specific Objective
- To prevent further HIV infection among key population groups at higher risk (mobile populations)
- To reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV
- To strengthen the capacity of the community and RCVs to respond and deliver an effective HIV program.
Activities
- Training of RCVs for HIV preventative measures
- Small group discussion on HIV and AIDS prevention, condom negotiation skills and demonstration
- IEC and condom distribution
- Refferal for Voluntary Confidential, Counseling and Testing
- Peer education activities amongst targeted population groups
Target beneficiaries
- Highway bus/truck drivers and their assistants (direct beneficiaries)
- Terminal authorities, bus route in-charge, supervisors, passengers, general laborers and local vendors (indirect beneficiaries)
