News: MRCS commemorated World AIDS Day


 
Yangon,1 December 2009

World AIDS Day Commemoration Ceremony was held 9:00 am today at Myanmar Red Cross Society, 42 Strand Road. U Kyi, Honorary Treasurer,MRCS and U Khin Maung Hla, Executive Director, MRCS, Mr Bernd Schell, Head of Delegation, IFRC, representatives from IFRC and ICRC, Heads of Division and staff from MRCS, Red Cross Brigade members and other distinguished guests attended the Ceremony.U Kyi, Honorary Treasurer,MRCS gave the opening speech. Afterwards, U Kyi, Honorary Treasurer,MRCS and U Khin Maung Hla, Executive Director, MRCS and Mr Bernd Schell, Head of Delegation, IFRC cut ribbons to open the World AIDS Day Commemoration Ceremony.

About Us
Our Program Area
 
In 1920, the Society came into existence as a branch of Indian Red Cross Society. When Burma was politically separated from India in 1937, it attained national status and was recognized as Burma Red Cross Society. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recognized it as a National Society in 1939. The Society was admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1946.
